The Opportunity

Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Budgeting and Reporting Officer. The position will provide technical assistance for all aspects related to financial management and reporting. The Budgeting and reporting officer may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis and will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

STRATEGIC

Budgeting and reporting officer contributes to:

  • The development of an organisational culture that reflects SCI values, high performance, and excellent customer service to deliver outstanding results for children, members, and donors.
  • The design of tools/templates along with finance, operations and other departments for effective budgeting control process and reporting.
  • The design of the new funding opportunities for the country office in close collaboration with NBD through the development of proposal budgets which are responsive to the donor and institutional needs and requirements.
  • Supporting the budget holders and area operations managers in analysing financial information pertaining to grants and area offices.

MONTHLY REPORTING AND BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Prepare monthly VAT reports for USAID/EU funded awards.
  • Ensure that all monthly VAT related documents for USAID/EU awards are prepared, reviewed, and delivered to donor and/or MRA according to USAID/EU VAT guidelines.
  •  Updating of cost coverage calculator for the area offices on monthly basis after hard close and when a new award starts.
  • Preparation of SOF loaders for new awards and submission of the same to the budgeting and reporting coordinator for review and posting.
  • Assist in preparations of monthly financial reports and ensure that costs are allocated to the right codes as per save the children financial management structure.
  • Liaise with Financial controls and Compliance team in the preparation of reversals for wrong postings and re charging of salary costs and overhead recoveries.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly award status reports and make recommendations to management.
  • Monitor field office support costs and ensure that each grant is contributing a fair share of the support costs, in collaboration with the area operations managers.
  • Partner on site review of financial policies and systems for financial management
  • Identification of the financial management capacity gaps for partners and supporting in strengthening capacity of the partners.

DONOR REPORTING

  • Keep track of reporting deadlines to facilitate timely submissions of financial reports to Awards for submission to the member/donor.
  • Maintain and update finance repository of financial reports and Glacoses.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration or finance management and a minimum of level 2 of a professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, is an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 2 years relevant experience working with International NGO’s particularly those addressing human/children’s rights and those applying partnership approaches is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.

Desirable

  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
