Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi Government in the health sector. Our Mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide.

The Baylor-Tingathe program developed in 2008 initially responded to suboptimal uptake of PMTCT and pediatric HIV services in Malawi and has grown over the past 14 years to support the full cascade of HIV care and treatment services. The current CORE programming seeks to support the Malawi Government in achieving epidemic control, by providing client focused care to People Living with HIV from the time of diagnosis to linkage and full engagement in care. BCMCFM’-s CORE programming is funded by USAID, and is currently operating in 6 districts in Malawi. BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of:

POSITION:                         Motorcycle Mechanic
CONTRACT DURATION:    1 year (renewable)
DUTY STATION:                Phalombe

Position Description:

The Motorcycle Mechanic, under the overall supervision of the Transport Officer with support from Administration officer, has the following responsibilities:

Essential Duties

  • Training/ Capacity Building
    • Participates in designing and implementing field and technical trainings for BCM riders.
  • Workshop/Fleet Management
    • Provide training and technical support to field-based riders including preventative maintenance and riding skills.
    • Responsible for the operation and upkeep of motorcycle workshop facilities including tools and spare parts.
  • Scheduled/routine vehicle maintenance.
    • Ensures preventative maintenance is carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation or as required.
    • Ensures that all tools are in correct working order and accounted for
  • Recordkeeping and logistics
    • Keeps accurate inventory of all spare parts and tools.
    • Ensures accurate records are kept of all motorcycles movements, repairs, and service
  • Fleet Operation
    • Drives motorcycle/vehicle in a safe, skilled and efficient manner at all times
    • Must be able to drive a manual transmission four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • Ensures that all motorcycle registration, insurance, and license requirements are updated and in accordance with the law.
  • Performs other program support duties as requested by the Officer on-site or the Transport Officer

COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Four (4) years of progressive experience in repairing and maintaining motorcycles in difficult terrain.
  • Motorcycle mechanic Level three certificate from an accredited technical institute or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out maintenance, service and repair on Yamaha and Honda motorcycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow safety and traffic regulations
  • MUST Possess valid Malawian Vehicle License
  • Possessing a valid Malawian Motorcycle riding license will be an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of computer use including email, Microsoft word and Excel
  • Fluency in English
