Bishop Mackenzie International School – BMIS, the only IB School in Malawi located in Lilongwe, is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Security Supervisor.

Job Purpose

The overall purpose of the role is to protect individuals at the school including students, staff and visitors and protecting school property through monitoring and controlling camera footages to detect and prevent any security threat within the school premises.   The CCTV Operator will be reporting to the Head of Operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain computer-based security systems, including access control and alarm monitoring;
  • Utilize security software and databases to log incidents, maintain records and generate reports as needed;
  • Collect and analyse security data to determine security needs;
  • Perform routine checks and updates to ensure the smooth operation of security systems;
  • Continuously monitor CCTV cameras and surveillance feeds to detect and assess security threats or suspicious activities;
  • React swiftly to any unusual incidents by following established protocols and contacting the appropriate personnel;
  • Communicate security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using established protocols;
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair and development of the school’s camera surveillance system;
  • Manage access control systems, including verifying the identity of individuals seeking access to secured areas;
  • Enforce access policies and procedures to maintain the security of the school premises;
  • Compilation of monthly progress reports;
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent;
  • Diploma or Certificate in Security Management;
  • At least three years of security related experience is required.

Specific/Personal Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of security management and principles and best practice;
  • Oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to operate a computer and assigned software;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Able to analyse and evaluate data for specific use;
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative by identifying potential problems and seeking solutions.
