Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is a statutory body established under the Communications Act (Cap. 68:01 of the Laws of Malawi) to regulate the provision of services in the communications sector of Malawi, comprising telecommunications, posts and broadcasting.

Under the Communications Act, MACRA is mandated to regulate and monitor the provision of communications services and ensure that, as far as it is practicable, reliable and affordable communications services are provided throughout Malawi and are sufficient to meet the demand for such services in accordance with the principles of transparency, certainty, market orientation, efficiency, and consumer satisfaction. The Vision of MACRA is to ensure the provision of communication services for a digitally transformed nation.

In line with its quest for skills development and upliftment within the communication sector, MACRA has embarked on a program to create opportunities for internship and attachment for graduates to get practical work experience that will complement their competence and employability. The Authority, therefore, is looking for persons to be considered for internship in the Information Communication Technology (ICT). The details of the internship vacancies are as follows:

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) INTERN (2 POSITIONS)

Job purpose and scope
To provide technical and administrative ICT support within the Authority.

Key Duties and responsibilities

  1. Installing, configuring, and maintaining of hardware and software
  2. Participating in diagnosing and troubleshooting systems/network issues.
  3. Providing technical support to staff and helping solve IT-related issues.
  4. Assisting in managing servers, networks, printers, and other devices.
  5. Participating in the development and enforcement of ICT policies and procedures.
  6. Supporting in maintaining systems backup and recovery processes.
  7. Participating in ICT projects such as systems updates, and upgrade migrations.
  8. Learning to monitor system performance and implement performance tuning.
  9. Assisting in maintaining inventory of ICT equipment, software, and licenses.
  10. Any other duties assigned from time to time.

Requisite Qualification
Currently enrolled or recent graduate of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Computer Science, or any related field.

Key competencies and attributes

The ideal candidate for the position is expected to have the following:

  1. Basic understanding of computer networks, operating systems, servers, and databases.
  2. Good problem-solving skills.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  4. Ability to work as part of a team.
  5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  6. Ability to work as part of a team.
  7. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and IT-related software.

DURATION OF INTERNSHIP

The interns shall be engaged on a 1-year contract with a possible extension depending on the needs in the departments.
