1.0 Introduction
Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization working in over 30 countries around the world. Norwegian Church Aid has been working in Malawi since 2002 and in 2021, NCA joined forces with DCA and are operating as a joint country programme (JCP) in Malawi. One of the key approaches to implementation is the FAME approach, this is a faith-based and rights-based methodology designed to equip faith actors to facilitate structured community dialogue, transform harmful social and religious norms, support women’s and girls’ agency, strengthen survivor referral and protection, and advocate with duty bearers for protective laws, policies and accountability.
2.0 Overall goal of the FAME approach
FAME’s overall goal is that women and girls live free from all forms of violence, can access relevant services, and can exercise their rights in supportive and accountable environments. Its Theory of Change assumes that when trusted faith actors are equipped to lead faith-informed dialogue and advocacy, they can help transform harmful norms, strengthen agency, improve access to protection and services, support access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and advance accountability for gender justice
