St Columba CCAP is a Christ centered Church in Blantyre Synod with a population of about 4,000 members located in Njamba near Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.

The Church is looking for persons with relevant eclucation background, experience and interpersonal skills to fill the above Positions:

POSITION: Church Audio & Video Equipment Technician

REPORTING TO: Church Clerk & Media Chairperson

GRADE: SS2

Purpose

The Church Audio & Video Equipment Technician is responsible for setting up, installing, operating, testing and troubleshooting audio and video equipment. Also, procluce the best possible atmosphere for worship through sound reinforcement. This includes but is not limited to, creating the best music mix possible, creating an audio mix that meets the mood the pastor/worship leader wants to convey, and supporting the audio needs of the people involved with the church service. Ultimately, glorify God through provicing excellent audio services. During the church services, the Technician observe the congregation as the program progresses, adjusting sound levels to accommodate solo performances and the sermon. Other responsibilities may involve collaborating with other church staff members to design and implement audio-visual enhancements for services, procluctions, and special events.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Service

  • Set up stage for musicians and install equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards for events and functions such as church service, meetings, etc.
  • Set up and operate sound equipment.
  • Perform proper line check.
  • Perform proper sound check, includes gain settings, monitor mixes, proper volume settings, and eq/mixing process. Monitor sound feels to ensure quality.
  • Test and resolve equipment issues.
  • Diagnose and correct media system problems.
  • Check with worship leader and pastor for schedule and any schedule changes.

During Service

  • Adjust sound levels during service as needed.
  • Record the church service.
  • Providing a distraction-free service as it relates to audio production.
  • Assist in filming sequences and camera movements.

Post Service

  • Return media to individuals such as backing CD to soloist, DVD to visiting groups and missionaries, etc)
  • Evaluate the service to find out if issues existed during service.
  • Report any broken/faulty equipment and recommend maintenance and repairs.
  • Clear Stage of equipment as needed.
  • Create and install custom lighting systems.
  • Cean audio and video equipment and store properly.
  • Duplicate audio and video data.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment on monthly basis

SOUND/TRAINING

  • Mix sound curing Sunday worship services, Thursday Night Preyers, cally Morning Devotion and special services/ events cis needed.
  • Mix sound during technical rehearsals with worship and media team.
  • Perform post-production sound eclits for recordings (video and audio).
  • Train volunteers in operating sound equipment end effective mixing

GENERAL

  • Supervise part-time church sound hands during church activities or events
  • In licison with the Media Committee, oversee production of church communication and media content including video, audio adverts and posters
  • Attend all church-wide special events, meetings as needed, and worship services.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Media Chairperson.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Diploma in ICT, or any computer science and mass media communication-related feld
  • Formal live sound training and a minimum of 3 years of continuous professional Sound Engineering experience.
  • Applicants that demonstrate necessary gifting will also be considered.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate a Midas Pro2 Soundboard.
  • Experience serving in a church or worship setting is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of industry standard practices and techniques.
  • Live sound engineering of large venues consisting of at least 40 channels.
  • Fluent with both analog and digital consoles.
  • Experience mixing different genres of music, including gospel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attentiveness and detail oriented.
  • Leadership skills for directing team of volunteers.
  • Commitment and ability to work in and contribute to overall staff in team-based environment.
  • Versatile in sound equipment management and sound engineering
  • Able to use video and audio procluction software and competent in graphics designing.
