Consortium of FEDOMA and MACODA in Partnership with AGRA
The consortium of Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA), Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA) in partnership with AGRA is implementing a 34-month project (November 2025-August 2028) aimed at creating 16,000 work opportunities in agriculture for youth with disabilities and refugees in Malawi. The project, “Creating Work Opportunities in Agriculture for Youth with Disabilities and Refugees in Malawi”, is particularly looking at promoting economic empowerment and livelihood of these vulnerable and marginalised groups through decent work and jobs in agriculture. This project will target 21,000 young women and men (16,000 youth with disabilities and 4,000 refugees) across 15 districts in five (5) Agricultural Development Divisions (ADDs): Lilongwe, Kasungu, Machinga, Salima, and Mzuzu. The targeted value chains include soybeans, maize, groundnuts, poultry production, beekeeping, piggery, and horticulture. The overall objective of the project is to create 16.000 work opportunities in agriculture for youth with disabilities and refugees in Malawi by December 2027.
To effectively implement the project the consortium is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced personnel and applications are invited to fill the following positions existing within the project.
PROJECT COORDINATOR
Position: Project Coordinator
Reporting to : Programme Manager

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Programme Coordinator who will coordinate, implement, and monitor agricultural programmes that promote equitable participation of women, men, youth, and persons with disabilities. The role ensures that agricultural interventions are inclusive, gender-responsive, and contribute to improved livelihoods, food security, and social inclusion.
Programme Coordination and Implementation
- Coordinate planning and implementation of inclusive agricultural programme activities and interventions.
- Facilitate the engagement between the project and relevant stakeholders as well as the partners within the larger AGRA programme.
- Develop work plans, budgets, and implementation schedules with strong gender and disability inclusion considerations.
- Ensure programme activities comply with organisational policies, donor requirements, and national development frameworks.
Technical Agricultural Support
- Provide technical guidance in crop production, livestock management, agribusiness, irrigation, and climate-smart agriculture.
- Promote adaptive and accessible agricultural technologies suitable for persons with disabilities.
- Support farmer groups, cooperatives, and self-help groups with inclusive agricultural practices.
- Organise and facilitate trainings on inclusive agriculture, gender-responsive value chains, and entrepreneurship.
Gender and Disability Inclusion
- Mainstream gender equality and disability inclusion across all programme activities.
- Ensure meaningful participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities at all stages of the programme.
- Conduct gender and disability assessments and apply findings in programme design and implementation.
- Work closely with Organisations of Persons with
- Disabilities (OPDs), refugee groups, women’s community groups, youth groups and community Structures.
Capacity Building and Training
- Build capacity of staff, extension workers, and community leaders on inclusion and safeguarding.
- Capacitate project beneficiaries and groups on technical issues for the realisation of programme objectives.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with government departments, district councils, AGRA programme partners, / NGOS, community leaders, extension services, and development partners.
- Participate in coordination meetings and represent the organisation in relevant forums.
- Advocate for inclusive agricultural policies and practices at community and district level.
Safeguarding, protection and safety
- Promote safeguarding, protection, and inclusion principles across programme activities.
- Ensure compliance with organisational safeguarding, gender, and disability inclusion policies.
- Promote the safety and protection of vulnerable segments of the population of targeted beneficiaries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Entrepreneurship, Rural Development, or related field.
- Professional training in Gender Studies, Disability Studies, Development Studies, or Social Inclusion is an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in coordinating agricultural or rural development programmes.
- Proven experience in gender mainstreaming and/or disability inclusion.
- Practical experience working with women’s groups, youth groups, and persons with disabilities in rural settings.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong technical knowledge in agriculture and rural livelihoods.
- Practical understanding of social inclusion, gender equality and disability mainstreaming principles.
- Programme planning, coordination, and reporting skills.
- Ability to collect and analyse gender and disability disaggregated data.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and report writing skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to field sites.
