Vacancies (x 2) – General Fitter – Welding & Fabrication Specialist
Location 1: Kaombe Sugarcane Estate, Nsanje District, Southern Region, Malawi.
Location 2: Sande Sugarcane Estate, Chikwawa District, Southern Region, Malawi.
We are seeking to employ skilled and dependable General Fitters to join our estate maintenance team at Sande and Kaombe Sugar Estates. The successful candidates will be responsible for the installation, welding and fabrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components across our irrigation infrastructure, including Centre pivots, water pumps, and bulky feeder pipes. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted water supply for sugarcane production.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and repair center pivot systems, including gearboxes, towers, and drive shafts.
- Service and troubleshoot irrigation pumps, including alignment, seal replacement, and coupling repairs.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of bulk water lines, valves, and fittings.
- Perform routine mechanical maintenance and emergency repairs on estate equipment.
- Respond to burst water pipes, carry out emergency welding and pressure testing.
- Fabricate and weld metal components as needed for irrigation infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and service schedules.
- Collaborate with irrigation and field teams to ensure timely water delivery.
- Adhere to safety protocols and the estates environmental standards during all operations.
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- Malawi TEVETA /(Grade 1 ) Level 2 or 3 Certificate in General Fitting, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in agricultural or industrial mechanical fitting.
- Hands-on experience with irrigation systems, especially centre pivots and irrigation pump mechanics.
- Proficiency in pipe fitting, welding, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret maintenance manuals.
- Must be aged between 25 and 45 years
- Must be prepared to work during odd hours
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices.
- Valid Driving Licensee Class C1 Category P/G is an added advantage.
