Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is an independent public office established under the Political Parties Act of 2018. Its mandate is to register, regulate, monitor and investigate political parties to ensure compliance with the Political Parties Act. In order to fulfil its mandate, the ORPP is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill vacant positions tenable at ORPP Headquarters in Lilongwe, as follows:
Job Title: Principal Legal Officer (1 Position)
Grade: RP4
Salary: Within the RP Scale Segment
Reporting to : Chief Legal and Investigations Officer
Purpose of the Job
To provide legal services
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Supporting the development and review of regulations, policies, procedures, and practices for the better implementation of the ORPP’s legal framework;
- Providing legal services within and on behalf of the ORPP including preparation of legal opinions, court processes and legal documents;
- Representing ORPP in all court matters;
- Providing legal advisory services to the investigation department and the ORPP in general;
- Reviewing complaints and investigation reports and providing legal advice and recommendations to relevant departments.
- Preparing files and case dockets for court and administrative proceedings in liaison with relevant authorities;
- Coordinating and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies in pursuing legal matters;
- Compiling and submitting periodic reports.
- Allocating work and appraising junior staff.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited University;
- Admission to the Malawi Bar and a Licence to practice in Malawi;
- 3 years of experience on a relevant field

- Experience in law enforcement, accountability and oversight functions will be an added advantage
