Lotus is undertaking refurbishment and maintenance of the process plant and other facilities in preparation for production to commence in the near future.

SAFETY, HEALTH & TRAINING OFFICER

Employment Type: Fixed Term (12 months)

JOB PURPOSE

The Safety, Health and Training Officer will be responsible for promoting a safe work environment and implementing health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislations, and delivering training programs to enhance employee awareness and capability in safety practices. This role is key to minimizing risks and fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning.

REPORTING TO:

SHRT Superintendent

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and report findings with recommendations.
  • Maintain safety records and documentation, including incident reports and inspection logs.
  • Collaborate with management to promote safe work practices and initiatives.
  • Liaise with external agencies and regulatory bodies when required.
  • Assess training needs and develop safety-related training programs.
  • Deliver induction programs and refresher training to new and existing employees.
  • Organize workshops, toolbox talks, and safety drills.
  • Keep up to date with best practices and regulatory changes, incorporating them into training.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary.
  • Maintain training records and certifications for all staff.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • NEBOSH, NOSA, OSHA, ISO 45001 or equivalent health and safety certification.
  • Train-the-Trainer or equivalent training certification (preferred).
  • Assessor/Moderator certification (e.g., from an accredited institution) – highly advantageous.
  • First Aid, Working at Height, Firefighting, or Emergency Response certifications – advantageous
  • 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety or training role in minerals processing, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Experience conducting training sessions and safety audits.

  • Strong understanding of industry regulations and compliance training (e.g., environmental, safety, radiation, legal, etc).
