Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR), a leading human rights and good governance non-governmental organization in Malawi, was founded in February 1995 as a non-profit organization and is legally registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 1962. CHRR is also registered with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) and is a member of the Council for Nongovernmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA)

CHRR is recruiting as follows:

Title: Finance Officer
Duty Station CHRR Office, Area 47/3/91, Lilongwe
Contract Duration: 2 year, renewable
Reports to: The Finance and Administration Manager

Under the direct supervision of the Finance and Administration Manager, the Finance Officer shall ensure that all financial transactions are properly executed, adequately supported and accurately recorded according to CHRR’s Accounting procedures manual.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Preparing payment vouchers and ensuring that all payments are completely authorized before electronic funds transfers (EFT) are initiated
  2. Initiating electronic funds transfers for approval Ensuring that all payments are fully supported with authentic documents
  3. Ensuring that all accounting documents are serially numbered and safely filed in both manual and electronic formats
  4. Performing regular electronic backups to safeguard institutional financial data
  5. Assisting in project budgeting in collaboration with programs staff
  6. Assisting in preparation of institutional annual budgets
  7. Preparing quarterly cash flow forecasts
  8. Making sure that all allocated books of accounts are up-to-date for instant accurate financial reporting
  9. Preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements
  10. Preparing monthly project financial reports
  11. Presenting project financial reports to management and donors when required
  12. Ensuring that all recurrent and statutory remittances are made on time
  13. Supervising the usage of petty cash
  14. Providing advice and support to programs on financial matters
  15. Ensuring that activity cash advance reconciliations are done and that liquation balances are banked intact within the authorized period after the completion of each activity
  16. Updating the institutional no-current assets register
  17. Preparing files and year-end schedules for external audit purposes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Computer literacy and ability to effectively use electronic accounting systems.

  4. Ability to work effectively in teams

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance from a NCHE accredited tertiary institution.

EXPERIENCE

At least 3 years’ proven experience in a similar position with a non-governmental organization of a similar or related nature.
