
Global Health Informatics Institute
The Global Health Informatics Institute, in collaboration with the Neotree Charity, is implementing Neotree—a fully integrated, open-source digital health intervention designed to combine data collection, education, and clinical decision support at the bedside. Developed with and for healthcare workers in low-resource settings, Neotree was first introduced at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Malawi in 2019. In 2023, the intervention was expanded to Kabudula Community Hospital and Lumbadzi Health Center and in 2025, Neotree is expanding to Kasungu district hospital and 10 primary health care facilities.
Title of the Post: Temporary Nurse/Midwife (duration of 3 Months)
Location: Lilongwe (KCH with regular visits to Kabudula Community and Lumbadzi Health Facilities)
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support
- Provide clinical support to healthcare workers at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Kabudula Community Hospital and Lumbadzi Health Centre focusing on neonatal care as it relates to Neotree.
- Obtain regular (at least three times per day, (6-8h) daytime vital signs in babies, and enter these vital signs into the redcap database. These vital signs include oxygen saturation (continuous measure over 2-min using mobile iPad device), heart rate, and respiratory rate, blood pressure (with date and time of measure on subject).
- Neotree Training and Support:
- Participate in Neotree initial training and provide support to healthcare workers on the use of digital health intervention.
- On the job training of healthcare workers on clinical components of Neotree application and hardware in existing sites.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to find ways to improve the Neotree platform and make it more helpful in everyday clinical work.
- Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and proposing solutions.
- Conduct all study activities according to local and project requirements.
- Disseminate monthly/ quarterly reports for Neotree utilization with clinical leadership teams across implementation sites
- Facilitate efforts to improve the quality of care across different sites using the data dashboards
- To attend monthly M and M meetings at KCH, actively engage in discussions with all stakeholders, and develop innovative solutions to address arising issues
- Participate in the facility neonatal audits to identify areas for improvement, aiming to enhance quality of care and reduce facility neonatal mortality
- Data Collection and Entry:
- Assist with data collection and entry into the Neotree system, ensuring accuracy and completeness especially entering aggregate maternal outcomes data at the maternity units monthly, and entering data into an electronic database according to standardized definitions.
- Work with the Project Assistant to train and support HIS data clerks in entering maternal/ neonatal data into the Neotree in support of Neotree- DHIS2 data integration.
- Maintain confidentiality of patients and study documentation.
- Reporting Neotree challenges experienced in the partner facilities to the program manager for troubleshooting
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with stakeholders, including healthcare workers, hospital administrators, and community leaders, to promote the Neotree project and ensure its effective integration into existing healthcare systems.
- Other duties
- Any other duties assigned from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Completion of internship or at least 1 year of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in maternal and neonatal care (training in COIN will be an added advantage).
- Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
- Experience in the use of digital health care application in quality improvement initiatives
- Willingness to travel within the district regularly
- Willingness to work in a team and contribute effectively
- Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
Skills
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of maternal and neonatal care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with digital health technologies and data collection tools.
- Proficient in English (written and spoken).
