Background

ETG Climate Solutions is a new business unit within ETG Commodities vertical with a current staff complement of 70 people across Switzerland, Spain, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa and Kenya. ETG Climate solutions seeks is building upon the Group’s large implementation experience of various farmer related initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa, to deliver climate and livelihood benefits at scale to farmers using modern tools and carbon market access. Climate Solutions has developed a bespoke program for African Emerging Farmer Carbon Abatement Program (AEF CAP) which has already been launched in Zambia, Malawi and Kenya.

Job Purpose

ETG Climate Solutions is looking for a dedicated Agroforestry Extension Coordinator to coordinate the implementation of various field activities for agroforestry project, including a cookstove component.

The Extension Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all field operations, ensuring successful implementation of project strategies and translating community needs into project objectives.

Location: The position is based in Lilongwe, with frequent visits to project sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating field activities according to the project guidelines and workplan
  • Training and supervising project field and nursery personnel and volunteers
  • Coordinate the organization, technical support, training and monitoring of participant farmer groups
  • Lead on the development of locally-appropriate training materials in English and other languages as needed
  • Coordinate the procurement of all items for the agroforestry program and tree nurseries
  • Conducting continuous assessment of the needs of the target communities or beneficiaries in line with the goals of the project
  • Gathering and documenting quality evidence of project implementation activities compiling field reports to the management
  • Develop and lead on designing and implementing all data collection for monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Coordinating and liaising with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with local laws, regulations, and organizational guidelines
  • Facilitating communication and troubleshooting problems between the field and the head office
  • Participating in regular meetings to update team members on field progress 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A degree in agroforestry, agriculture, natural resources management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ proven experience as Field Coordinator in agroforestry project or similar role
  • Strong understanding of data collection methods
  • Strong understanding of agroforestry principles and sustainable farming practices in Malawi.
  • Ability to facilitate and train project team and beneficiaries
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people, including local communities, government agencies and international project team.
  • Experience working closely with local government offices and village leadership in rural development programs/ projects in Malawi
  • Experience in project delivery and management related to voluntary carbon schemes will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people, including local communities, government agencies and international project teams
  • Experience in building complex program strategies and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner
  • Experience in developing and implementing monitoring & evaluation for a project
  • Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Fluent in English (both speaking and writing)
  • In possession of a valid driving license is a MUST (experience in driving 4×4 vehicles is an additional advantage)
  • Flexible in terms of traveling, living conditions and working hours
  • Must be a citizen of Malawi
