POST : Air Traffic Control Officer (Grade H)
TRAINING VACANCY NO.: 68/24
SALARY : Within the Grade H Salary Scale Segment
LOCATION : Department of Civil Aviation (Kamuzu International Airport and Chileka International Airport)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians to undergo a two (2) year training programme in Air Traffic Control at the Malawi School of Aviation. Upon successful completion of the training, candidates shall be appointed as Air Traffic Control Officers (Grade H) in the Department of Civil Aviation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be:
A) Serving;
- Aeronautical Officers (Grade I)
- Aeronautical Communication Officers (Grade I)
- Flight Information Officers (Grade I)
B) Non-serving members with a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Civil Engineering); Bachelor of Science in Information Technology; Bachelor of Education (Sciences); Bachelor of Aviation Management and Bachelor of Science in Meteorology obtained from accredited institutions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of 21 years of age but below 45 years at the time of Application; and
- Medically fit to undergo the training and perform duties upon successful completion of the training.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect runways and ensure that air fields are lighting at the start of daily operations and reporting all faults;
- Check the equipment on all working console, navigation aids;
- Originate NOTAM and control the movements of messages;
- Detect and handle radio communications failure in accordance with procedures;
- Provide standard separation between aircrafts;
- Assist in aircraft emergencies;
- Liaise with various organizations on closure of airport;
- Pass meteorological information to aircraft operators; and
- Assist aircrafts in avoiding bad weather areas and cloud breaking manoeuvres.
