The African Union Development Agency invites applicants who are citizens of African Union Member States for the post of Accounts Officer.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Accounts Officer, the Accounts Officer will be responsible for providing financial and administrative management support to AUDA-NEPAD. This includes promoting good governance, accountability, transparency, financial management, and stewardship, preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate transaction records, participating in financial audits, processing invoices, reconciling bank accounts, and maintaining financial master data on accounting software.
The Accounts Officer will also support the implementation of finance policies, procedures, and guidelines of the African Union. The incumbent will provide efficient support to the Senior Accounts Officer and team members to ensure effective management of accounts and financial risk management activities.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Experience in the preparation of financial statements as per IPSAS.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel and PowerPoint, SAP, or similar ERP is required.
- Practical experience in managing accounts and a good understanding of international accounting standards.
- Practical experience in accounting and financial management roles in an international, public, or private sector organisation.
- A sharp and analytical mind with creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, proven ability to clearly and concisely prepare, present, discuss, and defend issues, findings, and recommendations.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
- High ethical and accountability standards, emotional intelligence as well as impeccable integrity.
- Refined diplomatic skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and possession of a teamwork orientation and ability to interact harmoniously and effectively with colleagues and officials from diverse sectors, disciplines, perspectives, countries and cultures.
- Ability to resolve problems, exercising the highest sense of responsibility and maturity in the handling of confidential and sensitive issues.
- Strong organizing, work planning, scheduling and time management skills.
- Ability to work with enthusiasm and commitment under pressure and minimal supervision, multi-task with a wide range of individuals and institutions, as well as be proactive and creative with sound judgment.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Financial Management or Auditing, or a related field. A minimum of one (1) year of progressive working experience in accounting, recording of transactions, account closing, financial management, audit, and reconciliation of accounts within public sector institutions, international organisations, or similar organizations nationally, regionally, and/or internationally.
A professional qualification in accounting such as CPA, CA, ACCA, and CIMA or equivalent and good knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is an added advantage.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$25,523.00 per annum plus other entitlements e.g. Post Adjustment (57% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($21,832.68 per annum), pension (19% of basic salary), education allowance, medical aid, life and accident insurance in conformity with the rules and procedures applicable to internationally recruited staff of the African Union.
