The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu would like to engage a qualified persons of Malawian origin to fill the position of Monitoring & Evaluation Officer tenable at the Secretariat. The Diocese therefore invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position as stated below:

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
A monitoring and evaluation officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that programs and projects are effectively monitored, evaluated, and improved. This position involves assessing the performance and impact of various initiatives, collecting and analysing data, and providing valuable insights to support decision-making processes. The responsibilities of a monitoring and evaluation officer typically include designing monitoring and evaluation frameworks, conducting field visits to gather information, developing reports on program performance, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement recommendations for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designing Monitoring and Evaluation Frameworks: The primary responsibilities of the officer will be to develop comprehensive frameworks for monitoring and evaluating programs. This will involve defining key performance indicators (KPI’s), establishing data collection methods, and creating tools for tracking progress.
  2. Data Collection and Analysis: The officer will be responsible for collecting relevant data related to program activities, outputs, and outcomes. This might involve utilizing various data collection techniques such as surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and quantitative analysis. Once the data is gathered, the officer will conduct thorough analysis to derive meaningful insights.
  3. Reporting and Documentation: A crucial aspect of the role will involve preparing detailed reports on the findings from monitoring and evaluation activities. These reports often will include recommendations for improvement based on the insights gained from the evaluation process.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Effective communication with stakeholders will be essential for a monitoring and evaluation officer. This will include collaborating with project teams, government agencies, donors, and other relevant parties to ensure that evaluation findings are understood and acted upon.
  5. Continuous Improvement: The officer will play a key role in identifying areas for improvement within programs or projects based on the results of monitoring and evaluation activities. This might involve recommending changes to strategies, interventions, or resource allocation to enhance overall effectiveness.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, International Development, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data collection methods and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software for data analysis such as Excel, SPSS, STATA, or other statistical packages.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methodologies as well as experience in designing M&E frameworks.

The role of a monitoring and evaluation officer is critical in ensuring that the Diocese can assess the effectiveness of her programs and make informed decisions based on evidence-based insights. By designing robust monitoring frameworks, collecting and analysing data effectively, engaging with stakeholders, and
driving continuous improvement efforts, the M&E officer will contribute significantly to achieving positive outcomes in various departments’ and institutions’ initiatives in our Diocese.
