Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to complement Government’s efforts in the fight against HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.

MACRO’s Vision is Malawi populace free of ill-Health” and its Mission is “Transform lives of Malawians through the provision of high-quality HIV and AIDS, and other health related services”.

Therefore, MACRO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions in Mzuzu.

PHARMACY ASSISTANT (1)

  1. Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant at the clinic will play a crucial role in supporting the efficient functioning of the pharmacy. This role involves assisting the Clinic Manager and ensuring the seamless delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients. Responsibilities include inventory management, prescription processing, customer service, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. He/she will be required to prepare and dispense drugs to patients and healthcare providers; coordinate the receiving and dispatching of drugs, record and store drugs and other medical supplies

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prescription Handling:
    • Receive, process, and fill prescription orders under the supervision of the Clinic Manager.
    • Ensure accuracy in medication dispensing and adherence to prescription guidelines.
  2. Customer Service:
    • Assist patients and healthcare providers at the pharmacy counter, providing information on medications and answering basic queries.
    • Maintain a courteous and helpful demeanor to enhance the overall customer experience.
  3. Inventory Management:
    • Monitor and manage pharmacy inventory, including restocking shelves and verifying expiration dates.
    • Assist in placing orders for medications and related supplies.
  4. Data Entry:
    • Enter prescription and patient information into the pharmacy system accurately.
    • Maintain and update stock cards, Requisition and Issue Vouchers (RIV) as needed.
  5. Medication Packaging:
    • Prepare and package medications according to pharmacy regulations and guidelines.
    • Ensure proper labeling of prescription containers/packs.
  6. Quality Assurance:
    • Conduct routine checks to ensure the quality and integrity of medications.
    • Report any discrepancies or concerns to the Clinic Manager.
  7. Organization and Cleanliness:
    • Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy workspace.
    • Follow safety protocols and procedures in handling medications.
  8. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Clinic Manager, healthcare providers, and other clinic staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to address any issues or concerns.
  9. Compliance:
    • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing pharmacy operations.
    • Stay informed about updates in pharmacy practice and regulations.
  10. Patient Education:
    • Provide basic information to patients on the proper use of medications, potential side effects, and any relevant instructions.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of Certificate or Diploma in Pharmacy.
  • At least a minimum of 2 years work experience.
  • Registered with Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board of Malawi.
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education

  • Motivated, enthusiastic, sensitive and genuine desire to serve alongside others
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and other team members.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement in making decisions involving nonroutine problems
  • Diplomatic with excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Chichewa
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft office packages
  • Able to write basic reports
