Plant Assistants

Central Region Water Board is a statutory corporation legally mandated by the Waterworks Act No. 17 of 1995 to provide water and sanitation services in all towns and market centres in the central region except Lilongwe City.

Vacancies have arisen which the Board would like to fill immediately. Job and person specifications for the positions are as follows:

PLANT ASSISTANTS (CRWB 12)

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Manages water intake, pumping plant, water treating plant and water tanks as per given work shifts and carries out water pumping and treatment activities.
2. Repairs faulty or broken pumps, main pipes, tanks or any mechanical or electrical equipment.
3. Assists in routine pump performance tests and power factor connection inspections for the pumping stations to ensure optimum performance.
4. Monitors tank water levels, tank performance and then taking corrective measures to address discrepancies.
5. Checks regularly on plants and equipment to identify faults likely to occur and take corrective action.
6. Reports any critical machine or plant failure, pipe bursts and interrupted supply of water to supervisors.
7. Assists in routine pump performance tests and power factor connection inspections for the pumping stations to ensure optimum performance.
8. Carries out minor maintenance of water works up to tank areas.
9. Assists in trucking down of illegal connections.
10. Prepares daily work reports for management.
11. Performs any other duties relevant to the post.

Minimum qualifications and experience

• Good Malawi School Certificate of Education Plus Advanced Certificate in General Fitting or Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing.
