Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is the global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS and has reached more than 26 million women with services to prevent transmission of HIV to their babies. In 2015-2016, EGPAF supported activities in 19 countries and nearly 5,000 sites to implement prevention, care, and treatment services; to further advance innovative research; and to execute global advocacy activities that bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.

EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence‐based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 179 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) ‐ funded HIV Service Delivery, Quality Improvement and Health Systems Strengthening Program. EGPAF seeks to fill the following temporary open positions:

Position Details

Job Title : Research Assistants (16)

Reports to : Field Supervisor

Location : Blantyre, Zomba & Thyolo

Duration : 6 months from June 2019

Job Summary

The research assistant will be based in one of the research sites. She/he will be responsible for supporting health care workers with participant recruitment in the study, conducting informed consent, assisting interviews using an in-depth interview structure, and maintaining safety, quality and confidentiality of the data collected.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support Expert Clients with participant flow for the study according to the protocol
  • Obtain informed consent from research participants per protocol and ethical guidelines
  • Assist interviews with eligible study participants using in-depth interviews
  • Enter completed questionnaires daily into electronic database
  • Ensure safety and confidentiality of data collected
  • Ensure quality of data collected through detail oriented work ethics
  • Maintain adequate inventory of study supplies
  • Complete study documentation and maintains study files in accordance with study protocol,
  • sponsor requirements and EGPAF policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the trouble shooting components of the research study
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by Research Quality Leader or Study Coordinators.

Required Qualification, Experience and Skill

  • At least a Diploma in health related field, statistics, or demography
  • Experience in collecting data especially in the health sector
  • Training is surveys or data collection will be an added advantage
  • Training is interviews (qualitative data collection) will be an added advantage
  • Competence in data collection using electronic devices
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working after hours and on weekends
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills (written and spoken) in English and Chichewa
