The Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit (MEIRU), operates in Karonga District and Lilongwe City. The research programme is conducted in partnership with the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Malawi Ministry of Health, and international partners. The programme is developing capacity in non-communicable disease research (including mental health), health informatics, epidemiology, and other areas. Research is done in partnerships and in highly conducive academic environments.
MEIRU seeks to recruit dynamic candidates to the positions of Programmer/ Database Manager to be based in Lilongwe city or Chilumba in Karonga.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the data management team and MEIRU researchers to understand purpose of data collection tools in each study. He or she will develop data management plan, develop pre-printed forms as well as perform programming activities using frameworks including ODK and RedCap. In addition, he or she will write data checks, solve data queries as well as preparation of data extracts for analysis, just to mention a few.
All candidates should have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an internationally recognized university or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. In addition, he or she should have proven experience as a programmer, database manager, or similar role. He or she should have demonstrated experience in visual basic for applications and MS Access development as well as strong understanding of programming and database management.
