Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a non-profit, independent international humanitarian organization committed to delivering medical aid to populations facing crises, with a steadfast commitment to impartiality and without regard to race, religion, creed, or political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF works closely with the Ministry of Health and local communities, focusing on the Cervical Cancer project in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza districts. The CBO project run by MSF France supports two Community Based Organizations —one in Zalewa, Neno District, and another in Dedza District—to enhance sex workers’ access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.
Since April 2022, MSF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Sex Workers Empowerment Alliance (SWEAD) in Dedza, and the Tikondane Care Group (TCG) in Zalewa, has been supporting outreach SRH+R (sexual and reproductive health and rights) clinics in sex work hotspots within Dedza and Zalewa. These outreach clinics provide medical services such as HIV/STI testing, referrals for ART, STI management, the prescription of daily oral HIV PrEP. Soon injectable CAB-LA will be offered as an additional PrEP option through these clinics.
MSFF is looking for its CBO Project: MEDICAL DATA PROCESSING OFFICER– 1 POSITION
Workplace : Medical Data Processing Officer based in Blantyre
Type of contract : 6 months Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension
Start date : January 2025
Main purpose of the position
Performing medical data collection and entry tasks in the mission database, accurately recording relevant clinical and demographic information about patients while ensuring data quality and reliability in line with MSF protocols and study procedures. This includes maintaining confidentiality and producing accurate, up-to-date documentation to support the medical team’s decision-making processes.
Accountabilities
- Support on the spot (including on-site) data quality checks (accuracy and completeness) of filled forms before data entry.
- Assisting in appropriate registration of clinic clients, filling in the client forms, clarifying queries, obtaining missing information and correcting errors, ensuring that sufficient supplies of necessary hardcopy data collection forms are available.
- Performing data entry of all epidemiological information into select databases program, creating appropriate reports and providing data for project development purposes.
- Ensuring that all data entered has been authorized and that appropriate documentation has been received (clinic visit forms, PrEP forms, registers, diagnostic testing, treatments etc.).
- Ensuring that all data entry processes occur in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensuring that all data collected and entered into databases is accurate, complete, and consistent, promptly identifying, and correcting data entry errors. Reporting any data quality issues or anomalies observed during data entry to the supervisor without delay.
- Ensure the accurate completion of various forms by addressing queries, retrieving missing information, and correcting errors. Additionally, ensure a continuous supply of necessary hardcopy data collection forms is maintained.
- Filing documents according to MSF standards, study procedures and Data Protection policies.
- Assisting in the compilation and preparation of regular reports and providing detailed information to medical, study and laboratory teams (weekly, monthly, according to project requirements).
Requirements
Education | At least Diploma in Biostatistics, Information and Technology (IT) or Mathematics field (Desirable). |
Experience | Minimum 2 years’ work experience in data entry/processing (Essential). |
Languages | English and Chichewa |
Knowledge | Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Strong knowledge ofExcel functionality in relation to data processing (Essential). Knowledge of descriptive data analysis using Excel (Desirable)
