Bholato Foods Limited is a maize flour production company based in Lilongwe, Malawi. We prioritize quality, safety, and operational excellence in line with the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS). We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer to ensure the well-being of our staff and compliance with all workplace safety requirements.
Position Overview
The Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures within the plant. The ideal candidate will ensure full compliance with the Malawi Occupational Safety and Health Act, as well as MBS hygiene and sanitation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies
- Conduct regular plant inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits
- Train employees on workplace safety practices, PPE use, fire prevention, and emergency protocols
- Ensure compliance with national occupational health and safety regulations and MBS hygiene codes
- Investigate workplace incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety training, inspections, and incident reports
- Collaborate with HR and management to foster a safety-first culture
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in health and safety roles, preferably in food production or manufacturing
- Certification in First Aid, Fire Safety, or Risk Assessment is an added advantage
Key Skills
- Solid understanding of Malawi’s workplace safety laws and regulatory frameworks
- Strong training and communication skills across all levels of staff
- Competence in risk identification, mitigation planning, and problem-solving
- High attention to detail and reporting accuracy
