Company Accountant

The Company seeks to recruit suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Company Accountant. The position is tenable at the Head Office in Blantyre.

THE POSITION: Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS will include:.

  • Prepare, examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness;
  • Analyze operations, Project costs, revenues and financial obligations to project future financial performance;
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports;
  • Compute taxes and prepare lax returns thus ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements as is required by the tax laws;
  • Manage the payroll system and ensure that the same is up to date;
  • Reviewing and enforcing compliance of polices, procedures and internal control systems;
  • Preparation of financial statements that are compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards (FRS) and handling year end audit to strict deadlines;
  • Assist with the developing and monitoring of adherence to internal controls to avoid company losses
  • Supervise the following accounting functions, including but not limited to: General ledger, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Reconciliation of daily banking, Inventory reconciliation and physical verification
  • Assist with preparation and review of budgets.
  • Maintain an asset register and issue periodic reports on physical status of the assets.
  • Assist in preparation of consolidated accounts.

MINIMUM QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy with at least 5 years experience at a similar level; those studying towards professional qualification of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (CAM) or equivalent qualification and/or are members of CAM or equivalent professional body of accountants will have an added advantage
  • Profound knowledge in payroll, financial and management accounting as well as regulatory framework within the accounting system
  • Ethical and mature with a high level of integrity, honesty and confidentiality;
  • Team player with strong communication skills
