COUNTRY MANAGING DIRECTOR

Africa Global Logistics Malawi Limited is a subsidiary of a multinational corporation MSC. Africa Global Logistics (AGL) is a leading Freight Forwarding and Logistics company in the country. The Group is one of the leading integrated logistics network operators in Africa with concessions in ports and railways. In Malawi we operate the entire logistics service range from international freight forwarding to warehousing and distribution management. The company intends to recruit suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions tenable at our Kanengo offices in Lilongwe on fixed term contracts.

The Position

The job requires management of Africa Global Logistics Malawi Limited which is a large logistics, clearing and freight forwarding company connected to large multinational shipping lines. It also requires skills in dealing with issues relating to Public-Private Partnership sector collaboration.

The Managing Director represents the AGL Group in Malawi. As such it is an executive position which requires working with other top-tier executives to oversee the operations of the company and organizations across a variety of industries, such as transport/ logistics, manufacturing, brewery, agriculture, pharmaceutical, banking, and government to maintain the company’s competitiveness. In this role, he has also to ensure that the company is compliant with national and international laws and regulations at any time.

As a company executive, the Managing Director is required to sit in various companies’ boards.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must therefore have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration or its equivalent related to the transport and logistics industry with not less than fifteen years of experience in a similar position preferably in a multinational corporation. Those with broad knowledge and experience working in FMCG environment, transport/logistics, tea, and pharmaceutical industries will be preferred.

Job Role Summary

Reporting to the Regional Managing Director,  the successful person will among other things be generally focusing on: –

• Overall responsibility of company P&L
• Managing all company operations
• Developing business and increasing profitability for a company
• Directing the development and implementation of strategies to boost profits and efficiency
• Managing the implementation of company’s short and long-term plans in line with the Group strategies
• Agreeing annual budgets and producing annual business operating and investment plan to ensure deliverance of monthly, quarterly, or annual targets for revenue, profits, and cash
• Compiling business performance reports on a monthly or quarterly basis.
• Coordinating the efforts of various departments, operations, supply chain, finance/legal, commercial, human resources to meet company goals

Person Specifications/Skills

This job suits someone who enjoys a client facing role and the challenge of growing the business. As such, the ideal candidate must be an effective communicator with excellent leadership skills, management experience in supervising and building teams and developing employee talents. He/she must additionally, be results oriented and creative in addition to having strong business-development skills and the ability to interact with clients, staff, and senior management.

Therefore, a strong understanding of how a transport and logistics business operates, a proven track record demonstrating their understanding and business acumen, excellent networking skills, ability to deliver the highest standards of customer service and ability to create a high performance culture are prerequisites of this executive position. Further, those with bi-lingual especially in English, French or Portuguese will have an added advantage.
