The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Safeguarding Coordinator for the Malawi Country office, Lilongwe. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Human Resources, Safeguarding and Administration (HRSAD), the post holder is expected to ensure the child safeguarding and PSEA standard practices in humanitarian and development programs within Save the Children’s work in Malawi. She/he will be responsible for contextualizing child safeguarding and PSEA policies/materials ; identify needs and facilitate training for various groups; conduct safeguarding risk assessment of projects followed by development and implementation of mitigation plans; receive and managing reported child safeguarding and PSEA concerns; ensure mechanisms of communicating and reporting safeguarding messages/concerns are established; establishes friendly and convenient reporting mechanisms for beneficiaries; organize different learning forums on child safeguarding and PSEA practices. She /he will also be responsible for monitoring of standard practices of sectors across all location, reporting, data maintaining, share learning.  Furthermore, she/he will be responsible to travel to field offices and assist field offices and country office to ensure compliances are meet through incorporating safe programming practices in all program cycle

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have: 

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in social sciences and five years proven experience on child protection, education, social work, child safeguarding and other related filed.
  • Experience on facilitation and coordination of trainings and workshops
  • Working directly with children and youth
  • Experience on child safeguarding and PSEA
  • Experience in conducting project risk assessment, monitoring and report writing
  • Managing high work load and divers demands
  • Practical experience on child participation on the intervention of program activities.
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of email, internet and Microsoft office
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Desirable

  • Experience working in humanitarian response programs
  • Skill on illustration design and publication
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Good understanding on national lows and procedures
