JOB SPECIFICATION
Old Mutual Investments Group (OMIG) Malawi Limited is a leading asset management company, providing diverse investments and savings solutions to clients. OMIG is a subsidiary of Old Mutual Malawi Ltd.
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic business champion. The individual will be accountable for providing overall leadership and developing a sustainable long-term growth and strategic direction for the company’s operations. The incumbent will be accountable for achieving results through comprehensive business management over the long-term. He/she will lead the business to deliver on its aspirations and help to navigate the ever-changing environment.
He/she will report directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer for Old Mutual Malawi Limited and the incumbent will be based in Malawi.
KEY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To drive the overall strategic direction of the asset management line of business, which comprises of investments, property and Unit Trusts, formulating of business plans as well as overall investment philosophy, strategy and investment processes for delivery of both short term and long term business objectives, and developing and nurturing talent.
The role has the following other deliverables:
1. LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS
- Provides overall leadership and vision in developing a sustainable long-term growth and strategic direction for area under supervision.
- Develops and maintains a sound, effective organizational culture, ensuring capable management succession, as well as progressive employee training and development programs.
- Delegates to, and manages, functional teams.
2. BUSINESS STRATEGY FORMULATION
- Develop clear and executable business plans consistent with group objectives
- Setting the strategic direction of overall business including finance and operations, ICT, Responsible Investment and Customer Acquisition and Engagement and Stakeholder management.
3. INVESTMENT STRATEGY FORMULATION
- Setting the investment philosophy, strategy and processes for the business
- Championing and embedding best practices in asset management.
- Setting the overall strategic investment management direction of the business including overall investment management approach, research methodology, and securities selection process.
- Developing new forward-looking investment products including alternative investments.
4. STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION
- Drives the implementation and execution of business strategy including monitoring of the same
- Grow and diversify the business operations.
- Implement strategies to meet short-term profit targets for the business.
- Develop and implement effective business practices for the line of business.
- Champion the implementation of key initiatives.
5. OPERATIONAL EFFECIENCY
- Defines and implements best practice in the organization.
- Drives operational excellence throughout the business.
- Defines performance parameters (incl. balanced scorecard) and measurements.
- Ensure the realization of high-performance individuals and teams
- Implement effective controls and compliance procedures.
6. COMPLIANCE
- Responsible for the general control environment.
- Responsible for ensuring that all business practice are aligned to legislative requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring the compliance to governance and group requirements.
7. STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for the overall stakeholder relationship management.
- Initiates, maintains and manages relationships with key stakeholders including regulators and key investors
- Builds and manages internal stakeholders including OMMALA, Boards and relevant Old Mutual Africa Regions heads.
- Manages external stakeholders including industry regulatory bodies; Reserve Bank, Ministry of Finance and Malawi Stock Exchange.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
The following are key requirements for the role:
- CFA charter holder.
- Postgraduate level qualification, including additional certifications in investments management would be an added advantage.
- Experience in the asset management sector is a requirement, and experience in the alternative investments would be an added advantage.
- Have a solid business acumen.
- Proven track record of communicating, influencing and delivering through others.
- Adaptable and able to cope with a dynamic environment.
- Reliable, have integrity and display a professional approach.
- 10+ years in the financial industry experience.
