MINISTRY OF HOMELAND SECURITY

Vac. 40/24
Post: Parole Officer (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Homeland Security

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Law, Social Work, Psychology, Divinity, Humanities, Theology, Guidance and Counselling and Security Studies obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Monitoring the location and activities of parolees in the community;
  2. Obtaining information about offenders’ past and present behaviors;
  3. Providing recommendations to the National Parole Board;
  4. Managing information regarding offenders in the parole data system;
  5. Monitoring the reintegration of criminal offenders/parolee serving the remainder of sentences;
  6. Providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of law offenders in custody or parole;
  7. Making recommendations for action involving formulation of rehabilitation plan; and,
  8. Preparing and submit reports about parolees to the board for final decision.

Post: Public Works Officer (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Department of Prisons Service

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Civil Engineering, Public Works, Project Management, Agriculture Extension, Humanities, Social Work and Psychology obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Supervising of persons convicted to perform public works in the communities;
  2. Maintaining residential punishment register;
  3. Monitoring the places of placement and labor camps;
  4. Providing material and social assistance to the convicts;
  5. Advising, assisting and endeavoring to find employment on which persons sentenced to public works should be engaged.

Post: Probation Officer (Grade I)

Location: Department of Prisons Service

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Law, Security Studies, Social Work, Criminology, Guidance and Counselling, Psychology or Sociology obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Preparing pre-sentence investigations reports to assist the court in matters pertaining to sentencing;
  2. Monitoring and evaluating probation services programmes and activities;
  3. Exercising general supervision over the making or keeping of records by subordinate officers;
  4. Conducting investigations on any complaint against subordinate officers in the execution of their duties;
  5. Supervising and monitoring cases assigned by the courts.

Post: Assistant Parole Officer (Grade K)

Location : Department of Prisons Service

Qualifications:
Applicants should be in possession of a diploma in any of the following fields: Law, Social Work, Theology and Community Development obtained from recognized institutions.

Duties

  1. Preparing and submitting reports about parolees to the parole board for final decision;
  2. Screening and reviewing lists of prisoners recommended for presidential clemency;
  3. Selecting and placing prisoners on parole;
  4. Conducting routine inspection of prisoners records to determine those eligible for early release;
  5. Discharging parolees when their sentence expires;
  6. Promoting community awareness and education.

Post : Assistant Probation Officer (Grade K)
Salary: Within the Grade K salary scale segment
Location: Department of Prisons Service

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a diploma in any of the following fields: Law, Social Work, Guidance and Counselling or Community Development obtained from recognized institutions.

Duties

  1. Providing material and social assistance and interventions to a probationer;
  2. Making preliminary inquiries into the home surroundings as the court may direct;
  3. Preparing and submitting reports about parolees to the parole board for final decision;
  4. Determining nature of treatment and rehabilitative programs for offenders;
  5. Visiting from time to time the places of resistance of probationers.

Note:
Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be required during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of condition of appointment on probation (PSR 19).
