Saint John of God Hospitaller Services is a non-profit healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians including the vulnerable, marginalized and excluded groups. With its operations in both Lilongwe and Mzuzu, Saint John of God Malawi is a key provider of tertiary and community based mental health promotion and care including in prisons; early intervention services for children with both
intellectual and physical disability; vocational training for orphans and vulnerable youth including those with disability; health care and other services for older persons; psychosocial counselling, stress and addiction management services; rehabilitation of street children; self-help group approach for women empowerment.

The Service also provides tertiary level training in Psychiatric and General Nursing, Clinical Medicine- Mental Health and Psychosocial Counselling through its college of health sciences.

Rehabilitation Technicians (2 positions)

The position
Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Rehabilitation Technicians will be responsible for providing comprehensive rehabilitation intervention services to children with disabilities at our rehabilitation centres in Mzuzu and Lilongwe.

Responsibilities (which include, but not limited to)

  1. Carry out structured assessments, individualised rehabilitation plans, implementation of care and evaluation of goals for children attending our programs and re-planning where appropriate.
  2. Perform structured reviews of goals for clients attending the CBR program and re-plan where appropriate
  3. Conduct home visits of the children assigned to your care
  4. Develop appropriate follow up tools and conduct follow ups to ensure smooth progress of activities
  5. Train and guide mothers /guardians and volunteers on the care of children with disabilities at home
  6. Ensure that all the required resources, appliances and supports that may be needed to carry out  Rehabilitation services appropriately are available
  7. Design appropriate appliances for clients according to individual problems, while ensuring that they are functional and monitored.

 Diploma in Medical Rehabilitation from an accredited tertiary Education Institution
 Those with training in Physiotherapy will have added advantage
 At least two years post qualification experience in medical rehabilitation work
 Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi
 Willingness to work with children with special needs and those with disabilities and their families.
