Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi Government in the health sector. Our Mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide.

The Baylor-Tingathe program developed in 2008 initially responded to suboptimal uptake of PMTCT and pediatric HIV services in Malawi and has grown over the past 12 years to support the full cascade of HIV care and treatment services. The current CORE programming seeks to support the Malawi Government in achieving epidemic control, by providing client focused care to People Living with HIV from the time of diagnosis to linkage and full engagement in care. BCMCFM’-s CORE programming is funded by USAID, and is currently operating in 6 districts in Malawi. BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of:

 Position Description & Responsibilities

 The Operations Manager will oversee all operational activities of the Tingathe program. They will oversee the management of program operations, working closely with internal departments to set priorities, supervise the operational staff, develop vendor relationships,  and achieve program outcomes while building management team capacity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct transport department in all aspects of vehicle and motorbike movement, maintenance and fueling per established policies.
  • Supervise six administrative officers within central and southern Malawi and conducting periodic in person visits to observe stores and fleet management, general office operations and facilities.
  • Oversee operations department in procurement and management of stores, fleet, and other project assets;
  • Work with Operations, Human Resource, and Finance departments to regularly review SOPs to ensure they are consistent and compliant with local laws and USAID regulations.
  • Provide oversight for infrastructure projects, ensuring contracts comply with USAID policies.
  • Serve on Internal Procurement Committee; assisting with weekly meetings, ensuring established policies are adhered to and minutes are distributed in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with operations director on matters of joint interest while otherwise contributing expertise to various management and operational matters as directed.

Candidate Profile

Applications were sought from experienced, mission-driven candidates who meet the following profile:

  • 4-year university degree is required with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration or any related field. Health background experience is a plus;
  • Minimum of 5 years of non-profit management experience with substantial knowledge and experience in procurement, logistics management, IT, infrastructure and administrative systems;
  • Experience managing USAID grants and knowledge of USAID reporting regulations.
  • Ability to write and manage vendor contracts
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • At least three years supervisory experience
  • Extensive knowledge of organizational and operational best practices;
  • Excellent listening, writing, and speaking skills;
  • Strong presentation skills, interpersonal skills, ability to motivate others;
  • Skilled at setting priorities and directing others’ work;
  • Ability to assess talent and conduct interviews, and experience building effective teams;
  • Strong integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Fluency in English
