Institutional Background
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention.

Jhpiego Malawi With funding from PEPFAR through CDC is implementing a Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) project entitled “Strengthening the Delivery, Coordination and Monitoring of HIV services in Malawi through Faith Based Institutions and will be working with Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) . The program aims to engage Faith Communities to Find Men and Children Living with HIV by increased utilization of HTS in selected districts in Malawi to support the attainment of the 95-95-95 goals, in alignment with PEPFAR and Malawian Government priorities. This includes increasing access to and demand for HTS, improving linkages from HTS to other services, and improving quality of HTS.

The program intends to recruit suitable and a qualified staff for the vacant position below: The program is anticipated to start early June 2021 until September 2021.

Position Summary
The Program Assistant will serve as a key member of project implementation team and will assist in the management of administrative, financial, logistical and programmatic tasks required for Jhpiego programs. This includes assisting with project administration including tracking of program Gantt charts/ work plans, preparation of program reports, and power point presentations. The Program Assistant will also assist in the documentation and tracking of travel requests, liquidations, travel reports and other project documentation from Project Staff.

Required Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • A Diploma in Business Administration from a reputable institution
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in working with administration and office management with an international organization
  • Broad variety of administrative, financial, and computer skills
  • Self-management is necessary (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability), as well as the ability to project a professional, consistent image. (Both internal and external clients must see the Program Assistant as a person of competence and high integrity, and trust his/ her capability and sense of confidentiality).
  • Ability to work independently (proactive and with a good sense of initiative)
    Proficiency in a broad variety of administrative, financial, and computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and other Microsoft office applications
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a service oriented outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work well with colleagues and meet deadlines with minimal supervision in multi- cultural environment
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in other agencies and organizations worldwide
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines
  • Willingness to work on a wide range of tasks.
  • Ability to work long hours where there is need
  • Willingness to travel to program implementation sites, sometimes in rural settings
